Finding the right replacement battery for your SportDOG system

SportDOG collar and transmitter batteries are not interchangeable across systems. Each battery is engineered for specific voltage and form factor requirements — using the wrong battery won’t work and could damage your system. The guide below matches your SportDOG system to the correct replacement battery in one step.

Every battery on this page is a genuine SportDOG replacement kit. Each kit includes the battery, a small screwdriver for opening the battery compartment, and a rubber gasket seal to maintain waterproofing after the replacement. The gasket is important — don’t skip it.

What to know about SportDOG battery replacement

Transmitter and collar batteries are different parts. Your SportDOG system has two separate rechargeable batteries — one in the handheld transmitter and one in the collar receiver. They are not the same battery and are not interchangeable, even within the same system. Make sure you’re ordering the right one for the component that needs replacing.

The gasket seal matters. SportDOG collar receivers and transmitters use DryTek waterproofing that depends on a rubber gasket seal around the battery compartment. Every battery kit includes a replacement gasket. Install it when you replace the battery — a missing or worn gasket is one of the most common causes of water damage on a collar that was previously waterproof.

Battery life declines over time. Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity after repeated charge cycles. If your collar or transmitter is no longer holding a full charge, running down faster than it used to, or not charging at all, the battery is usually the culprit before the charger or the unit itself. Replacing the battery is the first and lowest-cost diagnostic step.

All batteries on this page are genuine SportDOG replacement parts. They are engineered to the same voltage and capacity specifications as the original batteries that shipped with your system. Aftermarket batteries may fit physically but can underperform or cause charging issues.
