Half-mile range, 21 stimulation levels, 3-dog capable — the X-Series platform for close-working hunting dogs
The SportHunter 825X sits at the center of SportDOG’s X-Series lineup — a step up in range and multi-dog capacity from the compact 425X, without the bulk of the long-range systems. The mid-sized transmitter is designed for close-working hunting dogs and waterfowl retrievers: enough range to reach a dog locked up on a bird across a field or working cover on the far side of a slough, with a receiver collar small and light enough to stay out of the dog’s way. Like all X-Series collars, it runs 21 stimulation levels via a Low, Medium, and High subdivision of each dial position, so you can make small, precise adjustments to match your dog’s temperament and drive on any given day. Tone and Vibration are on the same dial, keeping everything accessible with one hand so your eyes stay on the dog.
Range is ½ mile line-of-sight — over 800 yards of control under ideal conditions. Keep in mind that terrain, heavy cover, and obstructions will reduce effective range in real-world hunting situations. If your hunting style puts dogs at greater distances, the SportHunter 1225X extends that to ¾ mile, and the SportHunter 1825X goes further still.
The 825X supports up to three dogs from a single transmitter. It’s backwards compatible with older SDR-AF collar receivers, so if you’re upgrading from an original 825 system, those collars can stay in use and will deliver the full 21 stimulation levels. The current add-on collar is the SDR-AXF, which features an updated profile and finish to match the 825X transmitter. Note that adding collars beyond the first disables some transmitter features — see the operating guide for specifics. The X-Series also supports custom mode configuration if you want to rearrange or limit the available options to simplify training for a specific dog or scenario.
DryTek waterproofing keeps both transmitter and receiver submersible to 25 feet, so water crossings and retriever work in wet conditions aren’t a concern. Batteries in both units are fast-charging and long-lasting, running 50–70 hours per charge under normal use.
