One platform, four range options, two collar types — choose the right combination for your dog and your training environment
The PetSafe Yard Remote Trainer is sold in four range variants (100, 300, 600, and 900 yards) and two collar versions (Standard and Lite), making it one of the most flexible entry-level training systems available. The remote is the same across all variants: a palm-sized, backlit digital transmitter with dedicated buttons for tone and stimulation, a level dial, and an easy-to-read display. Both remote and collar are fully waterproof and recharge in 2 hours via USB, with up to 40 hours of battery life between charges. All variants support three training modes — tone, vibration, and 15 levels of static stimulation — with levels 8–15 locked by default as a safety measure. To unlock the higher levels, press and hold both the up and down buttons on the remote simultaneously.
Choosing your range
The range you choose determines how far the remote signal can reach your dog. All ranges are line-of-sight, meaning terrain, structures, and dense vegetation will reduce effective distance in real-world use.
| Range | Best for | 2-Dog capable? |
|---|---|---|
| 100 yards | Backyard and indoor training; short-range hands-on work | No — single dog only |
| 300 yards | Home and yard training; small parks | Yes |
| 600 yards | Neighborhood walks, dog parks, larger open spaces | Yes |
| 900 yards | Hiking trails, large fields, maximum off-leash freedom | Yes |
Standard vs. Lite collar: which one is right for your dog?
The two collar versions are otherwise identical in features — the difference is stimulation intensity and physical size. The Lite collar delivers a reduced stimulation range compared to the Standard collar. It also has a smaller, narrower receiver and strap, making it a better physical fit for small dogs. If you have a timid, sensitive, or small dog, the Lite collar is the right choice. The Standard collar suits most dogs and provides the full stimulation range.
One important note if you’re considering the 900-yard remote with a Lite collar: the Lite collar’s maximum effective range is 600 yards, even when paired with the 900-yard transmitter.
| Standard Collar | Lite Collar | |
|---|---|---|
| Stimulation output | Full range — for most dogs | Reduced range — for sensitive or small dogs |
| Receiver size | 2.67” × 1.38” × 1.05” — 1.5 oz | 2.16” × 1.19” × 1.13” — 1.4 oz |
| Strap width | 0.79” (20mm) | 0.59” (15mm) |
| Neck size | 6”–23” | 6”–23” |
| Maximum range | Up to 900 yards | Up to 600 yards (even with 900-yard remote) |

- Great Product!By:Anne
I got this for my Jack Russell. The "shock" is more of a low vibrate that can be pumped up for more of an actual shock.(I tried it on myself first!) I have only had to use the vibrate/shock once, and ever since then once my Jack has the collar on, one beep is all it takes to get her back to me while we are out hiking. Excellent product! Has all the features I required, plus some I didn't have to have, but are really convenient. The price was reasonable. My only possible reservation is the device's stamina, but only time will tell that tale. (Tail?) (8/29/2019)
