The PetSafe Guardian GPS Dog Fence lets you draw a custom boundary around your property using satellite GPS — any shape you want, no buried wire required. Set it up in one to two hours using the My PetSafe app, and your dog wears a rechargeable collar that enforces the boundary automatically. No transmitter to plug in, no circular limitation, no ongoing subscription costs. You buy it once and it works.

This is the right fence for properties 3/4 acre and larger where a circular wireless fence won’t work and an underground fence isn’t practical. Rural properties, irregular lots, acreage, vacation homes — anywhere you need a containment boundary that travels with you and fits the actual shape of your land.

How it works

The system uses a base unit (plugged in at your home) combined with the GPS-enabled receiver collar your dog wears. Using the My PetSafe app, you place virtual fence posts on a satellite map of your property to create the boundary shape. The collar continuously tracks your dog’s GPS position. When he approaches the boundary, the collar warns him with a tone or vibration. If he keeps going, he receives a static correction. The collar works as normal even if your Wi-Fi or power goes down — once the boundary is set, it’s stored on the collar.

PetSafe’s AccuGuard™ technology goes beyond standard GPS by combining satellite data with real-time motion detection from the collar. This extra layer of intelligence reduces false corrections and improves boundary accuracy, especially on cloudy days or in areas with moderate tree cover. Place digital fence posts at least 25 feet from any high-traffic roads or structures for best accuracy. Dense tree cover or heavy buildings close to the boundary line can reduce GPS precision.

The collar

The Guardian GPS collar is rechargeable and waterproof, with up to 3 days of battery life on a single charge. It fits dogs with neck circumferences of 8 inches and up — suitable for dogs 10 lbs and larger — and adjusts to fit neck sizes up to 26 inches. The collar supports tone, vibration, and 10 levels of static correction, giving you precise control over what level of feedback is right for your dog’s temperament. Correction level is set through the My PetSafe app. The system supports up to 5 dogs with the purchase of additional Add-A-Dog collars.

Guardian GPS vs. Guardian GPS 2.0 + Tracking — which one is this?

This is the no-subscription model. It creates GPS boundaries for your home property and requires no monthly fees. It does not include real-time tracking or portability to multiple locations. If you want live GPS tracking of your dog’s location or the ability to set up fences away from home, PetSafe also offers the Guardian GPS 2.0 + Tracking, which requires a subscription ($9.99/month or $89/year). For home containment without ongoing costs, this is the right choice.

The Guardian GPS system supports up to 5 dogs. Add additional dogs with the PetSafe Guardian GPS Add-A-Dog Collar. Each collar is set up and managed independently through the My PetSafe app, so you can assign different correction levels to each dog in your household.
