SportDOG Contain + Train Dog Fence System

One collar that works as an underground fence and a remote training collar — at the same time

Every other underground fence on this page requires you to remove the containment collar and put on a separate training collar when you want to work with your dog. The SportDOG Contain + Train eliminates that entirely. One collar handles both jobs, and it does them simultaneously if you want. Set the boundary, contain your dog in the yard, and train him with the same remote — without ever swapping equipment.

The system combines SportDOG’s In-Ground Fence (SDF-100A) with the remote transmitter from their FieldTrainer 425, all running through a single collar receiver. It’s built to SportDOG’s field-grade standards — rechargeable Li-Ion batteries in both the collar and remote, DryTek waterproof construction, and a transmitter powerful enough to cover 100 acres.

Three operating modes — this is what makes it different

The collar has an OLED display that shows its current mode at all times. You can switch between three modes depending on what you need:

Containment Mode — The collar only listens to the fence transmitter. Your dog wears it in the yard and is contained by the boundary wire. The remote has no effect in this mode, so accidental button presses while the dog is out back don’t cause any correction.

Training Mode — The collar only listens to the handheld remote, up to 500 yards away. The boundary wire has no effect, so you can bring your dog inside the fence perimeter or outside it entirely and train him without triggering containment corrections. This is how you do recall training, obedience work, or any session where the fence would interfere.

Contain + Train Mode — The collar responds to both the fence transmitter and the remote simultaneously. Your dog is actively contained by the boundary while you reinforce commands from the handheld. This is particularly useful for distraction training near the fence line or working a dog that’s testing the boundary.

The underground fence

Installation is the same as any underground system: bury the wire around your perimeter, connect to the wall-mounted fence transmitter, and run the training flags for the first two weeks. The included 1,000 feet of 20-gauge wire covers approximately 1 1/3 acres out of the box. With additional wire and flag kits, the system expands to 100 acres. The fence transmitter includes a wire-break alarm that alerts you if the boundary wire is ever cut or disconnected. The Anti-Linger feature automatically delivers a correction if your dog stays in the warning zone too long, preventing battery drain from boundary testing. Built-in lightning protection is also standard.

The remote training collar

The handheld remote is the same unit included with SportDOG’s popular SD-425 FieldTrainer — compact, one-hand operation, and up to 500 yards of range. There are 7 instantly selectable static stimulation levels across low, medium, and high ranges, plus vibration and tone options. Per-dog settings are stored individually, so if you expand to multiple dogs, the remote remembers each dog’s level and switches automatically as you scroll between them. In training mode, up to 3 dogs can be worked simultaneously with the purchase of additional SDF-CTR collars.

Both the collar receiver and remote transmitter are fully rechargeable with Li-Ion batteries. The collar is waterproof and submersible to 10 feet. The remote is waterproof and submersible to 25 feet. Both charge via the included adapters.
