Four miles of range, nine dogs, and a tube-style transmitter built for one-handed operation in the dark

The Pro Trashbreaker carries forward the Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker name and the tube-style transmitter design that hound hunters have relied on for decades, rebuilt on Garmin’s platform with updated electronics and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery system. The tube shape isn’t nostalgia — it’s a functional choice. The selection dial sits at the top of the unit and the multi-dog toggle and color-coded buttons line up in the hand below it, letting you switch between stimulation levels and between dogs by feel, one-handed, without looking at the transmitter. For a hunter standing in the dark at the base of a tree with a string of coonhounds working above, that matters.

What the transmitter controls and how it operates

The top-mounted dial selects between 6 levels of continuous stimulation and a tone setting — six steps across the range, with stimulation strength increased at the top end compared to the original Trashbreaker G3. Tone is on the dial alongside stimulation rather than a separate button, which keeps the control layout simple. There is no momentary/nick mode and no vibration — continuous stimulation and tone only. The 5-inch removable antenna delivers 4-mile range. The transmitter is water-rated to IPX7, weighs 8.1 oz., and floats. Battery life is approximately 60 hours per charge.

Color-coded arrows on the transmitter correspond to available collar strap colors on the TB 10 dog device. Additional dog devices come standard with red straps; the system can be paired with up to 9 dogs using TB 10 devices purchased separately. The transmitter also remotely controls the LED beacon lights built into each dog device, which are visible up to 100 yards — useful for locating dogs in timber at night or in any low-light situation where you can’t see the dog but need a visual fix.

The TB 10 dog device

The TB 10 is the collar unit paired with the Pro Trashbreaker handheld. It measures 3.1”×1.7”×1.7” and weighs 4.1 oz. Water rating is 1 ATM (10 meters) — waterproof but not submersible to the same depth as the transmitter, and the dog device does not float. It ships with two lengths of removable stainless insulated contact points for performance in wet conditions. Rechargeable lithium-ion battery runs approximately 40 hours per charge; battery life indicator shows status on the device.

The TB 10 includes a built-in BarkLimiter with AutoRise™ technology, activated on the dog device rather than the transmitter. AutoRise automatically ramps correction to the level needed to stop unwanted barking without manual adjustment — useful for keeping a kennel quiet between hunts without having to monitor individual dogs. It activates and deactivates on the collar side independently of the handheld.

Compatibility note: The Garmin Pro Trashbreaker is not compatible with legacy Tri-Tronics products. If you’re coming from an older Tri-Tronics Trashbreaker system, your existing dog devices will not pair with the Garmin handheld.
