Portable telescoping antenna — extends to 42” when your dogs push the edge of range
When a dog gets out far enough that signal starts getting marginal, this antenna buys you more headroom. It connects to your compatible Garmin handheld via a 1-meter coaxial cable and extends up to 42” for maximum reach. When the dogs are close and you don’t need it, it collapses to 10.5” and fits in a vest pocket. A molded handle and lanyard let you hold it up or hang it while you work the dogs.
Compatible with the full modern Garmin Alpha lineup — Alpha 10, Alpha 100, Alpha 200, Alpha 200i, Alpha 300, Alpha 300i — as well as Astro 320, Astro 430, and earlier Astro models. Connects via SMA connector. Weighs 2.4 oz without the coax handle assembly, 7.9 oz with it.
How much range does it add? Garmin rates it at up to 3 miles of additional range, but actual improvement depends heavily on terrain. Open fields and ridgelines will show the biggest gains. Heavy timber or broken terrain will show less. It’s most useful when you’re stationary and trying to re-acquire a dog that has run out.
