Built for the way hound hunters actually run dogs — multiple dogs, long distances, and often at night
The HoundHunter® 3225 is SportDOG’s collar for hunters running trailing and tracking dogs on bear, bobcat, mountain lion, and raccoon. The design decisions throughout reflect the specific demands of that hunt. Two-mile range addresses the reality that hounds on a hot track can cover ground fast and go far in a hurry. Six-dog capacity handles the string most serious hound hunters run. Color-coded arrows on the transmitter correspond to available collar strap colors, so you know at a glance which dog you’re on without thinking about it — useful at any time, critical when the chase is moving and you need to sort out dogs quickly. The collar receiver has a reflective strip for locating dogs after dark, which is where a lot of coon and cat hunting happens.
How the stimulation dial works
The transmitter uses a 7-position dial with Low, Medium, and High ranges available on the collar, giving you 21 distinct levels to work with. Set the collar to the range that fits your dog and dial in the precise working level from there. Nick delivers momentary stimulation; Continuous holds it. Vibration and Tone round out the mode set. Button functions are customizable if you want to rearrange which button does what — see the operating guide for the options. The system operates the same way on all six dogs from a single transmitter, with the toggle managing dog switching.
Waterproofing, battery, and fit
Both transmitter and collar receiver are waterproof and submersible to 25 feet using DryTek® technology. The collar fits dogs 8 lbs. and up with neck sizes 5”–22”, which covers most hound breeds from smaller coon dogs to large bear dogs. Lithium-ion batteries charge in 2 hours via the included docking cradle. The transmitter runs 40–60 hours per charge; the collar receiver runs 140–160 hours — long enough that battery management doesn’t become a problem across a multi-day hunt. Low battery indicators are on both units. Transmitter weight is 4.9 oz.; collar receiver is 4.3 oz.
The system expands to 6 dogs with SDR-AH Add-A-Dog® Receiver Collars. Additional collars come standard with a blue strap; you can identify dogs by strap color using the color-coded arrows on the transmitter.
Fit note: The HoundHunter 3225 is designed for dogs 8 lbs. and up with necks from 5” to 22”. If you’re running large hound breeds with heavier necks, measure before ordering and confirm the strap length works. Contact us at 1 (800) 524-2428 if you want to talk through fit before you buy.

Great collar! We have a very adventurous Brittany, and I feel safe with this helping to assure her recall. Collar is intuitive to use, and reliable thus far! Also, shipped very quickly! Overall, very pleased! (6/2/2022)
