The most popular wireless dog fence we carry — and for good reason
No wire to bury. No installer to call. No digging up your yard. The PetSafe Stay & Play sets up in one to two hours, works right out of the box, and can be packed up and taken anywhere your dog goes. It’s the go-to wireless fence for flat suburban yards, and the rechargeable collar means you’re not buying batteries every few months.
Just plug the transmitter in anywhere convenient — a closet, a garage shelf, anywhere with an outlet. It broadcasts a circular radio signal through walls, floors, and household obstructions. Your dog wears a lightweight receiver collar that listens for that signal constantly. Inside the boundary, he’s free to run and play. When he approaches the edge, the collar beeps a warning. If he keeps going, he receives a mild static correction — startling but harmless, similar to the static you feel touching a doorknob. With a few days of consistent training, most dogs learn their boundary and rarely test it again.
Coverage, boundary shape, and how the signal works

The Stay & Play covers an adjustable circular area up to 3/4 acre — a maximum boundary radius of 105 feet (210 feet across) in all directions from the transmitter. The minimum boundary diameter is about 44 feet, so you can dial it in tight if needed. Because the signal radiates outward in a sphere from the transmitter, the boundary is always circular. If your yard is relatively flat and a circular containment area works for you, this system is nearly impossible to beat for convenience and reliability.
The signal transmits reliably through walls, doors, and typical household obstructions, so the transmitter can be placed out of sight in a garage, closet, or utility room. Hills, significant tree cover, metal structures, or stucco siding can affect signal consistency — if your yard has these features, an underground fence will give you more reliable results. For flat, open suburban yards, the Stay & Play is the right tool.
One important feature: the collar uses static-free re-entry. When your dog comes back inside the boundary after a correction, he does not receive another correction on the way in. This keeps training positive and prevents confusion.
The receiver collar
The Stay & Play collar is one of the smaller and lighter containment collars PetSafe makes — it weighs just 2.9 oz and fits neck sizes from 6 to 23 inches. It’s designed for dogs 5 lbs and up, making it one of the few wireless fence collars that works comfortably on smaller breeds. The collar is fully waterproof and includes both short and long contact points for short-coated or thick-furred dogs.
It has 5 levels of adjustable static correction plus a tone-only mode for training or for dogs sensitive enough to respond to sound alone. A 15-second automatic safety shutoff cuts the correction if your dog gets stuck near the boundary. The rechargeable battery charges in 2–3 hours and a dual-lead charger is included so you can charge two collars simultaneously if you add a second dog.
Add more dogs with additional collars
You can add as many dogs as you need by adding additional Stay & Play receiver collars. Each collar is set up independently, so you can dial in a different correction level for each dog in your household. The collar is rechargeable, waterproof, fits custom straps, and is comfortable enough to wear all day. The Stay & Play system is also compatible with collars from the original PIF-300 system, so if you’re upgrading from an older PetSafe wireless fence, your existing collars will still work.
Extend your coverage with a second transmitter
The Stay & Play covers 3/4 acre out of the box. Need more? Add an extra Stay & Play transmitter and overlap the two boundary areas to expand coverage up to approximately 1.5 acres. The transmitter is 67% smaller than the older PIF-300 model — compact enough to tuck out of sight almost anywhere. It includes two built-in alarms: a Power Loss Alarm that sounds for up to 30 minutes if the transmitter loses power (your dog is no longer contained during a power loss), and a Transmission Failure Alarm that indicates a malfunction. Both keep you informed so you’re never caught off guard.

this system isexactly what we needed. we followed directions and its a dream come true (7/17/2020)- Worth every cent!By:Evan Clark
I finally bought one of these a few months ago. We have a Rott / Pit Bull mix that is 120 pounds of pure muscle and don't have him fixed. He likes to roam the neighborhood, but is super friendly. We don't like to tie him up because he digs holes then in the yard. We always wanted one of these but because of the price we never could afford it. I finally broke down after worrying about him for several hours of not being home. The fence works great! Took about a week for him to get used to it. Actually for the first week he would not leave the inside of the house, but once he got used to the boundaries, he was fine. We have it only turned up about half way. Now i let him out and i don't have to worry about him wondering off. Portable too if we move, which an in ground system isn't. So worth the money! (5/1/2014)
